AlfaCore 4044BR Alfalfa

Alfacore 4044BR Alfalfa (also known as SS-4044BR) is a premium branched-root alfalfa variety engineered for superior performance in challenging, imperfect soils — especially those with higher moisture levels or poor drainage.

Key Features & Benefits:
• Advanced Branched Root System: High expression of branch rooting helps keep the root system above the water table in wet or stressed conditions. The plant adapts by shifting from a traditional tap root to a more fibrous, branched structure for better oxygen access and stand persistence.
• Excellent Adaptation to Tough Soils: Ideal for fields that hold moisture longer than preferred, heavy soils, or areas prone to occasional flooding/heaving. Also performs well under wheel traffic.
• High Yield & Forage Quality: Strong yield potential with very good forage quality and approximately 20% multi-leaf expression for enhanced nutrition.
• Strong Disease Resistance Package:
• High resistance to: Bacterial Wilt, Fusarium Wilt, Verticillium Wilt, Anthracnose, Phytophthora Root Rot, and Aphanomyces Root Rot (Races 1 & 2)
• Some resistance to Aphanomyces Race 3
• Disease Resistance Index: 39/40 (outstanding overall protection)
• Agronomic Traits:
• Fall Dormancy: 4.2
• Winter Hardiness: 1.8 (excellent)
• Recovery After Harvest: Average to fast
• Crown: Sunken crown placement for added protection
• Root System: Branch/Tap root hybrid

Seeding Rates:
• Drilled: 15–20 lbs/acre
• Broadcast: 20–30 lbs/acre

Best suited for Midwest and similar climates on a wide range of soil types, especially where traditional tap-root varieties struggle. Plant into a smooth, firm seedbed at ¼–½ inch depth.

Whether you're dealing with variable soil conditions or want maximum longevity and productivity from every acre, Alfacore 4044BR delivers resilient performance, reduced risk of stand loss, and consistent high-quality forage for dairy, beef, or horses.

Give your operation the edge with genetics built for real-world challenges — fewer replants, better persistence, and reliable yields season after season.
